Steven A. Silverman began his own lobbying firm, SSGOVRELATIONS, LLC, in January 2015 after formally announcing his resignation from the position of Director of the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development in December 2014. Silverman was appointed to his former position by current Montgomery County Executive, Isiah Leggett, in April 2009.
Prior to his appointment, Silverman had worked for the Office of Maryland Attorney General since January 2007. He first served as Staff Assistant Attorney General of the Consumer Protection Division before being promoted to Chief of the Consumer Protection Division in April 2007. Silverman then served as Director of Aging, Healthcare and Special Projects from July 2008 through April 2009.
He served as a member of the Montgomery County Council for two consecutive terms from 1998 to 2006 representing the county At-Large. While on the Montgomery County Council, he served as its president twice, as Chair of the Planning, Housing and Economic Development Committee, and as a Member of the Health and Human Services Committee.
Silverman earned a B.A. from the American University School of Government and Politics in December 1975 and a J.D. from George Washington School of Law in June 1980. Shortly after graduating from law school, Silverman began his own law practice, Silverman and Schild, LLP, in January 1981. There, he operated as Attorney and Partner through December 1999 before leaving his own firm to focus his efforts on a career in public service.
